Brew Free or Die (BFD) is New Hampshire's first, and most active, homebrew club. BFD was started in January of 1991 by several home brewers, intent on establishing a homebrew club in New Hampshire to 'host' the American Homebrewers Association conference held in June of that year in Manchester.
Meetings are usually on the second Friday of the month, mostly in the southern New Hampshire area, and usually held from 7 PM to 10 PM. We welcome new members and those interested in joining the club as well.
Meetings start by covering club business: announcing upcoming competitions, congratulating winners of past competitions, and planning bulk purchases of supplies and equipment. We also feature a short discussion of a brewing technique or beer style. The meeting then turns to socializing and sampling of some of our best home brewed beers.
BFD's membership is currently around 50 members, representing all levels of experience and expertise:
The one common thread among our membership is an enthusiastic interest in home brewed beer, ciders and meads. Many of our members have won awards for their brewing. Many BFD members have won awards for their brewing. BFD members have served as both judges and stewards at numerous regional and national competitions. Among the BFD membership is a Grand-Master BJCP beer judge.
BFD hosts an annual competition, in cooperation with other regional clubs. All proceeds from the event go to charity. In 2007 we raised $2,000 for the American Cancer Society in honor of late BFD member Don Merkey. Our famous December holiday party, one of our biggest events, with a lot of incredible food and the finest homebrews in New England. Add it all together, and you'll find this club to be the most event rich and informative brewing club in the area.
